Music videos influence on teenagers
As soon as the BET Awards were over, I started receiving lots of texts and calls from my friends. They were describing every single detail about the show. This made me realize that music video plays a major role in teenager’s lives. Every new video that hit the air wave become popular. It seems like the day after a video is shown everyone knows the dance moves to it. Music videos play a great role in influencing teenager’s behavior in the American society by affecting their physical and mental health. Music videos inspire teens to become entertainers. However, it also affects the behavior in must. Just a few years back, it was easier to keep away certain television station from teens. By the advancement in today’s technology it is easier for them to access just about anything. Music videos are very beneficial for teenagers. Music videos help keeps up with teen physical and mental health, as well as being an inspiration to them. However, music videos are becoming too exclusive for teens to listen and watch. Producers and music artist should keep in concentration there viewers are not only adults but teens as well.
Teenagers are a group of people that are not adults but not far from becoming one. Teens are at the stage of live where they figuring everything out. They are developing some kind of self identity. We are very moody at time and tend to make life changing decision. According to Wikipedia, a teenage is the transitional stage of physical and mental human development. A music video is a film that last about four to five minute long that included singing and dancing throughout that time. Music videos are designed to capture the attention of the audience by song.
The history of music video is important because it effect teens in many ways. Music videos have come a long way in time and young people don’t realize the impact that it makes on their day to day lives. According to slide share which receive most of it information from Wikipedia the first type of video was invented in 1941, a new invention hits clubs and bars in the USA called the Panoram Soundie which is a jukebox that plays short video clips along with the music. In 1956, Hollywood discovers the genre of music-centered films. A wave of rock and roll films begins (Rock around the Clock, Don and Knock the Rock, Shake, Rattle and Rock, Rock Pretty Baby, The Girl Can and Help It, and the famous Elvis Presley movies). Some of these films integrated musical performances into a story, others were simply revues. 1960: In France a re-invention of the Soundie, the Scopitone, gains limited success. 1962: British Television invents a new form of music television. Shows like Top of the Pops, Ready! Steady! Go! And Oh, Boy started as band vehicles and became huge hits. 1964: The US-Television market adapts the format. Hullabaloo is one of the first US shows of this kind, followed by Shindig! (NBC) and American Bandstand; The Beatles star in A Hard Day and Night.
Teenagers listen to an average of nearly 2.5 hour of music per day. Guess what they’re hearing? One in three popular video contain explicit references to drug and alcohol usage according to a new report in the Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine. That means kids are receiving about 35 references to substance abuse for every hour of music they listen to, the authors determined. While songs about drugs and excess are nothing new, the issue is getting more attention because so many teens now have an MP3 player or a compact disc player in their bedrooms. Studies have long shown that media messages have a pronounced impact on childhood risk behavior. Exposure to image of smoking in videos influences a teens risk for picking up a smoking habit. Alcohol use in videos and promotions also links to actual alcohol use.
According to Sid Kirchheimer article on the study “association found between video viewing time and risky behavior,” finds after studying 522 black girls between the ages of 14 and 18 from non-urban, lower socioeconomic neighborhoods, researchers found that compared to those who never or rarely watched these videos, the girls who viewed these gangster videos for at least 14 hours per week were far more likely to practice numerous destructive behaviors. Over the course of the one-year study, they were: Three times more likely to hit a teacher, Over 2.5 times more likely to get arrested Twice as likely to have multiple sexual partners, 1.5 times more likely to get a sexually transmitted disease, use of drugs, or drink alcohol.
Music video has a major effect on teen mental and physical growth. Studies shows on an average day teens watch about five hour of television and must of that time is spent on music videos. After interview Caria Alderson on this study I received a lot of information that help me figures out the development of teens. I asked Caria a series of question but the question on how music video changes her mental health become an eye focuser. Music videos changed her life by casting out all negative energy. Caria stated “when I’m sitting in front of the TV screen watching music videos everything become clear to me. It drives me to a better place in my life. It helps me develop my own staff identity and puts my mind at peace. Music videos changed my total outlook of life because the people in them seem so happy and driven and I know that be hide the screen that it not that simple.” On the flip side, music video helps teens stay physically active. Teens can work physical activity into everyday routines, such as dancing to the music. Teen might also feel more comfortable doing home exercise so videos can help them with a guide line with movements.
Music becomes an inspiration for most teenagers. All throughout my high school, I wanted to be just like Beyonce. Beyonce haves a drive that shows the every movement that she makes and that become very inspiring to me. This made me want to become an entertainer. I wanted to fan, the new car, Hollywood and all other thing that can with stardom. Still today, you have young people they think the same about their favorite music artist which make the difference in one’s life. Music videos can inspire just by the different was people chose to live there life. This makes it easy for someone to identify their self with their favorite artists.
In conclusion, music videos really benefits teen’s growth as an identity. It helps them determine who they are as a person and effects their mental development. It becomes an inspiration for most and shows a physical change in most. However, I think that all music producers, artist and most importantly parents should watch what they’re eyes and keep in concentration what’s good for them. We have the most influence over teen’s life. We also have the ability to make a difference in their lives. They pick up every little thing they see and here. Parents you have the overall control of your teen. Most of the music artists out here are role models for teens. So as a role model does you really want teens to here all the proactive things that you allow to be played on the radio. Keep the teens in mind please. As Michael Sherman and David Brittan said in the article of “ the influence of music and Rock videos,” the parents can help their teenager by paying attention to their teenagers purchasing, listening and viewing patterns, and by helping them identify music that may be destructive.

The last few days everything has been a little bit crazy. My car has final dead on me and for some reason I couldn’t get in contact with anyone. It seem like when something goes wrong there is no one to be found. I drop my laptop and everything that I had was documented on there. I didn’t have a chance to figure off my topic for my cultural analysis and review the comments for my first paper so today is going to be the day I rap up my late week and this week ( not fun at all). The only thing I can do at this point is smile.

Vampires, goons, and monsters are all creators of the night. They are only seen hidden in the dark. I wonder why I never came across one. It leads me to the question are they real and where did they come from? This question is for you to decide. George Romero produced the outstanding film called “Dairy of the Dead.” He uniquely turns the film into a small story about zombies which I find amazing. Throughout the film Romero also shows other points that support his strategy such as how the government and news media hide information from the public to keep and how the human race will do anything for survival based on what is put on the internet. The purpose of the movie was to capture the truth on how media affects our daily lives. In Romero’s Dairy of the Dead, and Jason Creeds team Death of Death, both authors use characters to send a message about how the internet and national media portray real world events and how to protect themselves in from such events. Make-up and special effects are used to expose to the audience that the events in the film are very realistic. Finally, Romero uses a movie within a movie; this gives the audience a different perspective on how the movie is played out.
Within this film there is a film called “Death of Death” taking place as well, which is produced film student by Jason Creed. In the film there was some kind of revolution going on where dead people started coming back to life. It starts off with an immigrant family maybe from Mexico that turn into the living dead, or as stated in the film as zombies. The news spreads all over the internet and radio station of the zombie attack. Meanwhile, Jason Creed found himself shooting a movie about zombies. Jason and his team find out about the attack on a radio broadcast and try to figure out whether or not to take the situation seriously. One of the team members took immediate response to the board cast as other waited to see what was going on, however, they all ended up deciding to go home with their families. There were more and more people becoming zombies, to the point that the hospital and even their homes were unsafe. Throughout all of the tremendous attack, Jason Creed is filming every detail. Creed produced interviews form his team member just in case they were not going to survive through the outbreak. Throughout the attack of the zombies, lots of dishonesty from the government was taking place. The government was broadcasting to the people that everything is going be ok and telling them to just live the life’s they had until that point, when all the people knew that was a lie. In about the middle of the film you start to see a change in the attitudes of the characters in the film. Every day people were becoming savages. They would do anything for food and shelter. Some of the people look at it in a way that they could take over by killing and stealing from others. By the end of the film, Creeds girlfriend took it upon herself to finish the movie and release it to the public so everyone could see what really happened and learn how to live through the attack. The film also was meant to scare the people and show them how humans we act in life changing situations. The last scene in the movie had two rednecks shooting at zombies for fun like they were never once human. These lead Creeds girlfriends to question herself are we really worth saving? Throughout all of the series of events that is taking place, Romero has something hidden through the characters to demonstrate ethos to the audience.
Romero uses the characters to send a message to the public. He uses ethos through the action of the characters. The characters are carrying out a message. The message itself is a bit simple, however, within the message there is something else that Romero is trying to tell the audience. The media and the government are covering up the details and the truth about the attack and playing it off as if it was a minor problem. Romero used Jason creed and his team to expose the government and their lies. In the beginning of the film, he showed how the news report basically reported what sounded realistic rather than reporting what they actually saw. The government changes the view of what really going on to make society believe everything is alright. Therefore, the public only saw what was reported. People learn how to survive by watching the truth and how to deal with it. The internet is the way of covering the view of the story. In reacting to this outbreak, Creed gathers his team to show the truth for people awareness. It teaches the people how to protect themselves. The message that seemed to be hidden was how the people were changing outside their own nature. You may think that was pretty obvious, but what wasn’t obvious is how the people started turning on each other. The characters that Romero used were a perfect fit. I’m not speaking of the characters themselves, however, about the usage of them. Normal people (non zombie) were killing and stealing from each other. Romero’s message shows the audience that during time of serious need, the human race will become something that maybe is already installed in us. The truth will not be revealed until time of desperate measures. This strategy gives the audience some kind of awareness. It helps the people protect themselves from themselves. By using make-up and effects it expresses pathos to the audience to capture an emotional appeal to help the audience understand ways to avoid having to use desperate measures.
Make-up and effects are added to show Romero’s way of expressing the emotional appeal to the film. Make up is used to express the characters character. In this case, the zombies are wearing make up in expression of some kind of horror. Effects such as camera motion, sound and tone are used to show another kind of emotional appeal. Different noises and motion of the camera are meant to scare the audience. You may be thinking why would you want to scare them? Well I believe it helps keep the audience attention on the production. This strategy helps the audience capture an emotional feel to the movie. It helps prepare the audience for real world tragedy. This gives them a guideline of what to do in such cases. Pathos is used numerous times throughout the scene. In the middle of the film, the characters are at an hospital. Romero uses the zombies in doctor uniforms and blood all over their clothing killing each other. This shows a visual image of pathos. Music that is being played and the sound and tone of it show emotional actions. Without make-up you wouldn’t have an actual sense of how fear feels. With bloodshed, guns and death, the audience would be tricked into believing that the world is a perfect place. In all actuality it not, Romero’s make-up and effects strategy shows the audience that people are dying every day, maybe not from zombies but from war and everyday life. People are dying every day and its being covered up by the people. We are the people, we are hiding the truth from ourselves and that is Romero’s point along with the scaring us.
Romero’s purpose of placing the film into film is to show the audience the entire viewpoints of the movie. By having two films within each other it make it seem like an actual tragedy. The second is an attachment to the first one. This strategy helps the audience understand how the attack happened. I believe if the film itself was only “dairy of the dead”, you would only see the view as an audience that is watching a normal movie. You understand only the basic concept which is zombies attacking people and how it’s being covered up. You wouldn’t have a clue on how to protect yourself in case of an actual zombie attack, and know the ways of survival throughout it. With it being a movie within a movie, there are benefits. The audience gets to see a two way street of the film. One way is how to view the tragedy and the other is what to do when there is a tragedy of the kind. Basically the audience will be able to see the cause and the effect. Jason Creeds team film effect the audience with awareness by exposing the media. It lets the public see the actual stories of the people. When there became more and more people blogging and telling stories the true became hard to find. To help support this strategy of make-up and effects, Romero placed a film within another film to also show pathos but more so logos to show a logical reason of the attack and what to do
How people react when there is something going on and things they do when they become scared shows the true nature of us. People tend to do things that they normally wouldn’t do when something it’s at risk. When people are at their last of everything they will do anything to get what they need such as killing stealing to get the basic needs of survival like food and water. This argues that maybe human’s nature is to do such things. Creeds team put it best when the editor stated that “maybe it’s us against them,” (speaking on humans against zombies) however, creed turns it around and say they are us saying that humans are adapting to the habit of zombies. People start to turn against each other. In Conclusion, Romero’s entire purpose of using the element of the characters and the media was to get the attention of the audience to realize that these events could actually happen and what we as the people are prepared to do in such tragic moments. I’m not saying that we can actually become zombies but we can turn true tragic moments into false prospection. Are we prepared by Romero’s movie within a movie to show us what to do in such tragedy? Has the make-up and effects scared us enough where our reactions become more ethical? Finally, have the characters carried out a clear message so that we understand it. To sum it all up, Romero’s strategy’s of using make-up and effect shows an emotional appeal. Romero uses the characters to show ethos by sending a message and the concept of having a film within another is to so logic. With all of the strategies but in place, the entire message makes you question yourself about the truth? Is it true that we are becoming the product of our own environment?

And have the characters carried out a clear message to use so that we understand it, or is it true? Is it true that we are becoming the product of our own environment?
draft 3
In Romero Dairy of the Dead and Jason Creeds team Death of Death film about Zombies, both authors uses characters to send a message about how the internet and national media to portray real world events and how to protect themselves in such. Make-up and effects are used to show the audience that the events in the film are very realistic. Finally, uses a movie with a movie, this gives the audience different prospective on how the movie is played out. Throughout the film Romero also shows other points that support his strategy such as how the government and news media hide information from the public to keep and how the human race will do anything for survival based on what is put on the internet. The purpose of the movie was to capture the truth on how media affects our daily lives.
Strategy #1
Romero uses the characters to send a message to the public. The message itself is a bit simple, however, within the message there is something else that Romero is trying to tell the audience. How the media and the government are covering up the details and the truth about the attack is Romero’s message. Romero used Jason creed and his team to expose the government and there lies. In the beginning of the film, he showed how the news report basically reported what sound realistic rather than reporting what they actually saw. The government changes the view of what really going on to make society believe everything is alright. People learn how to survive by watching the truth and how to deal with it. The internet is the way of covering the view of the story.
Strategy #2
Make-up and effects are added to show Romero’s why of expressing his emotional appeal to the film. Make up is used to express the characters character. In this case, the zombies are wearing make up in expression of some kind of horror. Effects such as camera motion and sound and tone are used to show another kind of emotional appeal. Different noises and motion of the camera are meant to scare the audience. You may be thinking why would you would to scare them? Well I believe it helps keep the audience attention on the production.
Strategy #3
In the film dairy of the dead, there was also another film called death of death produced by Jason creed. Romero’s purpose of placing the film into two films is to make it seem like an actual tragedy. The second is an attachment to the first one. This strategy helps the audience understand how the attack happened. I believe if the film itself was only “dairy of the dead”, you would only see the view as an audience that is watching a normal movie. You understand only the basic concept which is zombies attacking people and how it’s being covered up. You wouldn’t have a clue on how to protect yourself in case of an actual zombie attack and know the ways on survival throughout it. With it being a movie with a movie, there are benefits. The audience gets to see a two way street of the film. One way is how to view the tragedy and the other is what to do when there is a tragedy of the kind. Basically the audience will be able to see the cause and the effect. Jason Creeds team film effect the audience with awareness. It let the public see the actually stories of the people. When there became more and more people blogging and telling stories the true becomes hard to find.
How people react when there is something going on and thing they do when they become scared shows the true nature of us. People tend to do thing that the normally wouldn’t do when something it’s at risk. When people are at their last of everything they will do anything to get what they need such killing stealing to get the basic needs of survival like food and water. This argues that maybe human’s nature is to do such things. Creeds team put it best when the editor stated that us against them (speaking on humans against zombies) to turn it around and say they are us saying that humans are adapting to the habit of zombies. People start to turn against each other.

Today in class I learned how to develop my thesis for my rhetorical analysis paper. Right now I am playing catch- up because I haven’t had the time to blog. I recently lost my father. I planning a funeral from a different country (wow) and it am hard to manage. I can only smile because I am very grateful to have had a father that has love and cared for his family. I am also grateful for my extended family in Nigeria for helping my family in America deal with it. ALL SMILE : ).
Singer, Bruns and Shooting War
After reading Bruns and Singer articles I have capture a total new view on how the media is used. I realized that the use of the media is being abused, however you don’t know how to choose the information that you receive. That leads me to the question how much information is too much. Once you get the information from reporters or journalism you cannot rely on just that information. Like in Bruns article there is much more to the story. I believe in most cases the story in not interpret for the understanding of all people. Blogging takes its place for those to research others understanding.
Speaking of understanding, Shooting war is another way to interpret the media. It is also humorous. Shooting war really helps the readers understanding what’s going on and make it easier for them to capture a visual prospective of news reports. Humor and pictures helps reader’s interest level and develop a personal connection. The reader is effect in many ways. By using graphic it makes the reader choose how to take the situation. It makes you realize that there is a cause and effect to what you do. Everything happens so fast in the world and it really doesn’t give you much time to think about what’s going on. Shooting war also gives you different was to look at politics. You can’t say what right or wrong after you compare to different beliefs.
